This little painting seemed to find its own direction as I worked on it.
I kept building up layers of blue and green, scraping back, adding more colour and then letting the paint take over again. Eventually a strong sense of movement appeared through the middle — almost like water rushing through a patch of dense greenery.
The flashes of pink, red and violet were the last things to emerge, and I love the way they cut through all those cooler blues. There’s something slightly wild about it, but also something peaceful. It feels like a glimpse of a place that exists somewhere between landscape and imagination.
I wanted to leave enough of the marks and layers visible so you can see the movement of the painting rather than everything being too controlled.
